Sheep breed for highlands

What breed of sheep is good for meat and can be kept in highland areas such as Chepseon in Kericho?
Sheep rearing requires minimum capital and very little space to start. Their daily feed intake is about 3 per cent of their body weight. Provide them with feeds rich in energy, proteins, vitamins, minerals fibre and water.

Important minerals to incorporate into their feeding programme include Phosphorus, magnesium, cobalt and copper, among others.

Dorper sheep is ideal for your area. The breed is renowned for their good performance in tropical regions having been developed from a cross between the Black-headed Persian and Dorset Horn Sheep breeds.

Dorper is hardy, produces quality meat and also has a faster growth rate and fertility compared to indigenous sheep breeds. Crossbreeds between dorpers and hampshires are also ideal as they give offspring with quality mutton and fast growth rates.
-Other alternatives are the Hampshire Down and Corriedale breeds.
