Feed formulation involves putting into consideration a number of factors.
The major ones include the nutritive requirements of the animal (which in turn depends on species, age, body size and production ability) as well as the type of feed ingredients available, their nutrient value/ content and cost.
When using a few ingredients, then the Pearson square method (it involves calculating required parts / quantity of feed ingredients especially if they are few) is ideal, but in most cases several ingredients need to be incorporated necessitating use of more complex methods.
Though expensive, use of a feed formulation computer program may be the most practical option.
