Cabbage farming guide

-Cabbage seeds take four to 10 days to germinate
and if grown in a seedbed, they should be
transplanted after five to seven weeks. They,
thereafter, take 80 days to mature and harvest.
-Cabbage also needs well-aerated soil, so loosen
the soil regularly and apply mulch. A thick mulch
layer of 15 to 20cm deep
will help to keep the
soil moist and cool. Shortly before head
formation, heap up the soil around the root or
stem area.

-Cabbage has high water needs, which peak after they start forming heads. Therefore, the crop is
best grown under irrigation to ensure steady water supply.

Potato farming guide

Which Soil type is Suitable for Potato farming ?
Potatoes will grow in just about any well-drained
soil, but they dislike soggy soil. Because they do
all their growing underground, they can expand
more easily in loose, loamy soil than in heavy,
compacted, clay soil that keeps plant roots from
getting the air and water they need.

Boom flower boosting farm yields

Coffee has been and is vital to the livelihoods of millions of
smallholder farmers in Kenya. Growing coffee as a cash crop
on small pieces of land in the country has not been easy
especially for the small farm holders due to high cost of
inputs and poor market prices.  That means delays for
farmers in earning income from their crop hence abandoning
it.

Small holder farmers are experiencing rising prices of coffee inputs
and low pay and this has contributed to a decline in coffee yields and
an increase in disease and pests.

Farmers believe that their coffee
bushes are becoming ‘confused’, which is not a good thing when their
family’s livelihood depends heavily on the money they make from the
crop.
